Nigeria Police Force Arrested 16 L.G.B.T.Q Members Over Homosexuality Act

The Edo state capital of Benin city, in South-South region of Nigeria was awash weekend following the arrest of about sixteen persons over gay practice at a birthday party organised in a hotel on the 31st of July 2016 in Benin city.

The arrest according to sources was carried out, following a tip-of about the activities of the victims which elicited suspicious that they were members of the gay club.

Peace imoisili declared wanted by the police.

The Edo state police command while briefing journalists in Benin City, give details of those who has been arrested are, Paul Osahon, Endurance Igbinovia, Okoro Joseph, David Edobor, Haruna Abas, Iziegbe Joshua, Jude Okoro, John Osalumense, Ibrahim Idris.

Others were, Igbinadion Osaretin, Edosa Richard, Sadon Johnson, Musa O. Musa, Abu Marcus, Festus Omokaro and Daniel Obi.

During interrogation by the police, the suspects confessed to the crime, even as one of the suspects, David Edobr in his confessional statement said that though, one Mr. Peace and Julius Olamide are in the party but departed before the arrival of the police.

Our correspondent gathered that the police have put all necessary machinery in place in view of tracking Peace Imoisili and Julius Olamide whom according to sources had since ran for cover and safety, in connection with the gay act.

It will be noted that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had in January 7, 2014 signed the Same Sex Marriage Prohibition Bill into law.

The Law which prohibits same sex marriage also prescribed 14 years jail term for anybody found guilty of such homosexuality viewed as sacrilegious in the land.

Meanwhile, as at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Peace Imoisili and Julius Olamide still unknown.
