Former Super Eagles Star Dies At 48
Former Super Eagles defender and 1992 AFCON revelation in Senegal Ajibade Babalade, died on Friday in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, after suffering cardiac arrest.
Babalade 48, died while being rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan. He is survived by a wife and three children, who are all based in the US.
The no-nonsense and hard-tackling defender was a squad member of the Super Eagles team that clinched bronze medal at the 1992 AFCON in Senegal.
In his football playing days, Kunde as he was fondly called by his admirers and fans pinched tent with Stationery Stores Lagos, 3SC Ibadan, Africa Sports Abidjan, Anyang LG Cheetahs Korea, Sturm Graz Austria, and Mohun Began AC of India.
Meanwhile, scores of Nigerian football fans and administrators have continued to pay condolences to the fallen hero. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) mourned the death with a statement that described the death as “sad and shocking” while former Nigerian Super Eagles goalkeeper, Ike Shorumu was also sad about the death. He said, Babalade “died at the hospital gate” while being rushed to the hospital after he suffered a cardiac arrest.
