Oyo State Police Launch Campaign Against Cultism

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Joe Nwachukwu Enwonwu on Tuesday announced the launch of the Campaign Against Cultism and other Vices.
CP Enwonwu made the disclosure in a Press Release that was released on Tuesday through the State Police Relation Officer, Superintendent of Police Olugbenga Fadeyi.
The press release which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital, quoted CP  Joe Nwachukwu that the Campaign Against Cultism and other Vices(POCACOV) is an initiative of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu.
The CP. stated further that the campaign is aimed at saving Nigerian Youths from the claws of cultism and other vices, making our environment safe and secured in line with the tenets of community-oriented policing.
Furthermore, relevant stakeholders, the media, corporate organizations, Political class, Student union bodies, town union leaders, faith-based organizations, post-primary school management board, ministry of youth and sports, Labour Union and Trade Union bodies, Artisans, Women and market unions, sister security agencies, men of the new media, neighborhood watch groups amongst others are implored to be part of the IGP’s initiatives.
Consequent to this, two new jingles on the sensitization of the general public have been released and attached for the media houses to use from time to time to enlighten the general public.
Recall that cultism has remained a problem for tertiary institutions in Nigeria and the Larger Nigerian society since the first decade of the existence of university education in Nigeria. It has been worrisome to have children on campuses and several measures had been adopted to curb cultism some of such measures were the expulsion of the cultists caught and outright ban of cultism on campuses.
The problem here is not the killings on our campuses but why the measures employed to curb cultism have failed.
