Bayelsa Bye-Election, Diri Speak To PDP Campaign Council
Governor Diri while speaking at Yenagoa, the State Capital during the inauguration event, said that the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded Edo State governorship election, which was won by the PDP, indicated there was a new dawn in the politics of the country.
Diri stressed that the Peoples Democratic Party would retain the Bayelsa Central seat which he vacated upon his swearing-in as governor on February 14.
The governor described the party’s candidate, Moses Cleopas, as eminently qualified to represent the people of the district in the senate, and commended the party faithful for transparent conduct of the primary election.

Governor Diri also maintained that politics is not about violence and imposition of candidates, but about the people as was seen in the Edo poll.
He said, “For those who think that politics is all about violence, there is a new dawn in Nigeria. We all saw what just happened in Edo State.
“We believe that with what INEC has done in Edo, it will do the same in this bye-election. We expect that the process will be fair and transparent.”
He noted that the PDP over time had proved to be a truly democratic party with a history of producing qualified candidates.

Diri however, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to build on the gains of the Edo poll by ensuring that the will of the people of Bayelsa Central prevailed over that of the perceived godfathers.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Collins Cocodia, also in his address said he was very optimistic that with the caliber of persons in the campaign council will give adequate supports and the victory is certain for the Party.
The newly appointed Director-General of the campaign council, Diekivie Oboh, in his short address said the will work as a formidable team towards ensuring that the victory is achieved for the party.
