ICYMI: Lagos CP Re-Echoes IGP Directive, Vows To Prosecute Erring Officers

Lagos State CP promised to strictly abide by the IGP directives on FSARS.
News Rain Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP. Hakeem Odumosu has on Sunday promised to abide by the new lay down rules by the Inspector General of Police on the FSARS.

Lagos CP On IGP Directive, Vows To Prosecute Erring Officers

CP. Odumosu also promised to arrest and prosecute any erring police officers who disobey the laydown directives by the IGP.
CP. Odumosu, through a Press Release from the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Muiwa Adejobi, ordered with immediate effect his monitoring teams to go after, arrest, and prosecute any personnel of police tactical squad, including the Federal Special Tactical Squad (STS), Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS), Intelligent Response Team (IRT), Anti Kidnapping Squad(AKS), Anti Cultism Squad (ACS), Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), or any nomenclature or any formations under or within Lagos State Command, engaging in illegal Stop and Search and any other low – risk operations such as operating with mufti dress, or patrolling as against the directives of the IGP.
The CP,  through the statement, noted that any police officer who wants to embark on patrol, Stop and Search, checking of information, etc must be on official police uniform with identification cards conspicuously hanged on his or her chest.
CP. Odunmosu in his bid to ensure that his order is fully accomplish stated that he will hold any Area commander and Divisional Police Officer where police harassment, brutality or extortion occurs, vicariously accountable, and shall accordingly be disciplined.
He stated that “the Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers in Lagos State must discourage and kick against the use of commercial buses or unbranded vehicles for such operations, except on surveillance or decoy,  which must be approved personally by the Commissioner of Police.”
CP. Odunmosu however, released numbers to be called for the member of the public, should in case they sight any of the police personnel in their areas doing illegal duty.
He said through the statement that, “To further encouraged members of the public to report any ugly and unprofessional conduct of the police to the command via the Public Complaint Bureau phone digits: 09057597931, 09010512350, 09010512348 and 09090003792.”
He reinstated commitment to his Command towards sanitizing the policing system in Lagos Command and achieve a people-oriented Nigeria Police Force in Nigeria
Recall, that sometimes last week the Inspector-General of Police, IGP. Mohammed Abubakar Adamu had given new directives on checkmating the excesses and sanitizing the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad and other tactical squads, as contained in the press statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba.
