BBNaija: Nigerians Slam Ogun Gov. For Honouring Laycon
Nigerians in their scores have gone on social media to register their displeasure with the governor’s gesture accusing him of promoting ‘immorality’.
While a good number of them claimed that the governor is not doing anything to encourage good values in the state, rather appointing someone that excels by displaying ‘immorality’ on a TV show.
They said Governor Dapo Abiodun could not give N5m to the best graduating student in the state but could give N5m and a house to Laycon who won N85m in an ‘immorality show’ called BBNaija.
A Facebook user, Rahman Adetola Olusada asked: “what will the new Ogun State Youth Ambassador teach the youth of Ogun State?”
Another user Akeem Olatunji wrote: ”The Gov doesn’t deem it fit to find the best graduating student in the whole of Ogun and make him/her to youth ambassador…”
In the same vein, one Emperor Olu Olunla wrote on Facebook: “Shame of a people. Big Brother Housemates are now the role models youths should emulate. Big shame and disappointment to this direction-less governor.”
Also, Ifeanyi Ezugwu said: “This is obscenity! Rewarding him for rocking a girl on a national TV?…”
Mutiu Salam MT Glamour in his own comment said: “Rubbish sell faster in this generation. We have many best graduates out there they are not recognized. Nigeria is a fake country.”
And Shoyemi Tajudeen Owolabi Megastar also wrote: “Imagine, best graduating student, best ICT student can’t be youth ambassador???”
Recall that on Tuesday while appointing the 26-year-old, winner of the reality television show, Big Brother Naija, Laycon as a youth ambassador, Governor Abiodun said: “We believe that you will help inspire our teeming youths to channel their energies towards positive engagements and shun vices such as robbery, drug abuse, cultism, advanced fee fraud, cybercrimes and kidnapping amongst other negative tendencies.”
The governor who also announced a gift of three bedroom bungalow and N5million for him said as a Youth Ambassador of Ogun State said: “I look forward to working with you to be a model of good character, excellence, good virtues, calmness, integrity that are general attributes of Ogun State, and in fact, your homestead, Odeda.”
While congratulating Laycon, the governor further said that young Nigerians can learn from Laycon’s demeanor while in the Big Brother Naija House based on how he related well with the other 19 housemates from different backgrounds.
Governor Abiodun also praised Laycon who he said, “demonstrated the Omoluabi component which is the primary ingredient of an Ogun State-born Nigerian, despite all the odds, temptations, and provocations in the House, I am proud that you came out unscathed and uninvolved in any scandal or immoral act.
“You have also demonstrated with the way you carried out your assigned tasks in the house with comportment; intellectual responses to questions and; your spirit of fair-play, that your academic achievement at the University of Lagos was earned. This has also shown that our Universities can and still produce graduates that are found worthy in character and good learning.”
The governor said the celebration of Laycon’s personality is beyond the entertainment that the House provided, but “what you represent: a rare combination of prodigious intellect, academic excellence, multi-faceted talents, character, and resilience.
The governor’s idea as expressed above didn’t, however, make any sense to a lot of Nigerians as shown by the comments on social media as discussed.
It will also be recalled that the Big Brother Naija, a TV reality show organized by Multichoice Nigeria has always been controversial with a good number of public commentators criticizing it for promoting immorality among youths.
It is noted that on several occasions, there had been alleged cases of open sex and nudity among the housemates.
