See Television Stations NBC Fined N9m Over EndSARS Coverage

The National Broadcasting Commission has sanctioned Channels Television, Arise Television, and Africa Independent Television.

News Rain Nigeria gathered that the regulatory body through the acting Director-General of the NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, at a press conference in Abuja on Monday sanctioned the media houses for what it termed “unprofessional coverage” of the #EndSARS protests.

Recalled that NBC had last week warned all television and radio stations against reporting the #EndSARS protests in a manner that could embarrass the government or private individuals or cause disaffection, incite to panic or rift in the society.

Meanwhile, most media houses have been involved in indiscriminate reports of the #EndSARS protests, especially the alleged Lekki Toll Gate shootings without a thorough journalistic investigation of the facts and figures behind the scene.

It is believed in a quarter of the public that the unconfirmed reportage in the media went a long way in inciting the people into violence and contribute greatly to the looting of public and private properties in many parts of the country.
