Tension In Yenagoa As Policeman Shoot Three Women

Three women have been shot by police in Bayelsa State Capital.

 

News Rain Nigeria reports that tension erupted in Yenagoa the Capital City of Bayelsa State, as Police Officer shoots three women.

The incident as reported has heightened the situation of things at the City, as the State Police Command in its bid to calm down the situation has identified and taken into custody the patrol team allegedly responsible for the attack on the harmless innocent women.

The incident, according to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymously said it happened around the Edepie-Etegwe Roundabout Area of Yenagoa.

According to a press release that was issued to the effect on Wednesday by the State Police Public Relation Officer, Asinim Butswat who gave the names of the victims as Ebinipiri Onojamadu aged 46, Madufuro Blessing aged 32, and Alice Azghene 17.

The Police Public Relation Officer stressed that the victims had been taken to Glory Land Hospital, noting that they have been responding to treatment.

He however described the incident as an unfortunate one, maintaining that it happened at the popular Tombia-Etegwe roundabout on 24 November 2020 at about 19:45 hours, when the patrol team was stuck in traffic gridlock and one of the Police officers in a bid to clear the gridlock accidentally fired a shot, the bullet ricocheted and injured three women.

The press statement made it clear that the State  Commissioner of Police, Mike Okoli, also condemned the shooting.

The CP has however called for calm among the residents of the State,  assuring them that the case would be properly investigated while stressing that all indicted persons will beade to face the wrath of the law.
