Lagos State has recovered Harmful Drug Substances from demolished Shanties in Fagba.

News Rain Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences, the Enforcement and Taskforce Unit, have recovered illicit substance during the demolition exercise that was carried out at an illegal structure in the Fagba area of the State.

The Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce during the weekend demolished not less than 1700 illegal Shanties and containerized shops at Fagba Railway in the Agege area of the State.

Briefing journalists on the development, the Chairman of the State Environmental Taskforce Unit, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, said that the demolition exercise became necessary after owners and occupants of these illegal shanties and containerized shops had been served a 7-day ‘Removal Order’ by the government based on series of complaints about criminal activities around the Area.

Egbeyemi stressed that after the expiration of the Removal Order, the government gave them additional 21days grace to remove their belongings and vacate the entire area before embarking on the demolition exercise.

”We are so sure that these illegal shanties and containerized shops were occupied by miscreants and hoodlums who terrorized innocent citizens around Fagba, Iju-Ishaga, and Pen-Cinema area, dispossessing them of their valuables, especially early in the day and late at night”.

Egbeyemi also maintained that some illicit substances were recovered by operatives of his agency, noting that harmful drugs were recovered from the demolished Shanties.

He said: ”Suspected illegal substances such as Indian hemp and other dangerous drugs such as Codeine, Skunk, and Tramadol were recovered during the demolition exercise”.

He said further that investigations conducted had revealed that miscreants and hoodlums occupying these illegal shanties were responsible for the destructions of public properties and looting of shops immediately after the recent ‘EndSARS’ protest around Agege.

“It was an eyesore with miscreants and hoodlums freely smoking and selling Indian hemp including prostitution by under-age boys and girls around Fagba railway lines”. Egbeyemi stressed.
