An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a Police Officer.

News Rain Nigeria gathered that on Thursday Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal, ordered the remand of a Police Officer, Tizhe Goji, 38, in a Correctional Centre over alleged murder.

It is reported that the Police Prosecutor, Inspector Caleb Leranmo, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offense on November 21 at Queen’s Court in Ado-Ekiti.

Leranmo alleged that the defendant, being a police officer carrying a rifle and serving in Ekiti, on the said date, unlawfully murdered one Abayomi Olaoye, 32, by shooting him with a gun at a drinking joint.

According to him, the offense is punishable under Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code, Cap C 16, Laws of Ekiti State 2012.

The prosecutor claimed that he had submitted a duplicate of the case file to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

The accused, however, did not take plea as his counsel, Ola Abiola, sought for a short adjournment pending the outcome of the advice from the DPP.

Chief Magistrate Abdulhamid Lawal consequently ordered that the defendant be remanded in a Correctional Centre pending the legal advice from the DPP.

Lawal adjourned the case to December 17 for further hearing.

It will be recalled that News Rain Nigeria had earlier reported that an allegedly drunk police officer shot and killed a man in Ekiti State.

It was gathered that two young men were shot at Queens Court last night by a police officer who reportedly escorted a retired Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG to Ikere-Ekiti. They were allegedly at a social party where they drank into a stupor.

One of the two men died while the second is said to be battling with life at the Emergency Unit of a private hospital in Ado Ekiti.
