Lagos By-Election: PDP Chieftain Lament Over Poor Conduct Of INEC
PDP Chieftain has condemned INEC over Lagos East Senatorial Election.
News Rain Nigeria reports that the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State has condemned the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) over some irregularities experienced at the Saturday Lagos East Senatorial Election.
The PDP Chairman, Sunday Olaifa while speaking on the outcome of the election said that the low turnout of voters has shown that voters no longer have confidence in the electoral process conducted by the INEC.

Olaifa maintained that Lagosians didn’t come out to vote because they knew that their votes would not count and until the electoral reform is done, voters would continue to shun elections.
News Rain Nigeria recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Tokunbo Abiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner in Saturday’s Lagos East Senatorial by-election.
Olaifa maintained that how can people waste their time to come out and vote in an election when they are aware that their votes will not count and the electoral umpire will not be free and fair. The election was characterized by vote-buying and things will not get better, until there is electoral reform.”
The PDP Chieftain stressed that Saturday’s Lagos East Senatorial and Kosife 11 House of Assembly byelections have been adjudged to have low voter turnout as constituents seemed to not to be interested in the election.
The INEC in its result breakdown of the Lagos State East Senatorial By-Election
showed that the APC won in all the five Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the district, in Ibeju Lekki APC polled 16,336 votes against PDP 937 votes, Kosofe, APC had 13,734 votes, while PDP garnered 6,661 votes, at the LGAs APC garnering 22,213 votes, while PDP polled 1,826 votes in Epe. The result from Shomolu showed 17,728 votes for APC and 2,067 votes for PDP. APC 19,394, while PDP polled 3,766 votes.
INEC declared the result of the election through its electoral Officer Dr. Khalid Olajide Adekoya on Sunday, maintained that Tokunbo Abiru, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) defeated his opponent, Babatunde Gbadamosi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by a wide margin in all the five local government areas in the senatorial district, polling a total of 89,204 votes against his PDP rival, Gbadamosi, who secured 11,257 votes.
The INEC breakdown of the final result showed how APC candidate Tokunb Abiru emerged winner at the Lagos East senatorial by-election having won in all the five Local Government Areas of the district.
