Lagos Assembly Pass Anti-Corruption Bill Into Law

Lagos State has passed Anti-Corruption Bill into Law.

 

News Rain Nigeria reports that the Lagos State House of Assembly has on Tuesday passed into law the Anti-Corruption Commission.

The bill titled “Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Bill, 2020”, was read on the floor of the House for the third time and was subsequently passed after a voice vote.

The law, which contains 53 sections, would address issues relating to public complaints bothering on accountability of public officers in the state by the commission.

The law is aimed at correcting administrative anomalies in the discharge of public functions as they affect the citizens and residents of the state so as to mediate in disputes between persons to persons, and government to person(s), especially on administrative procedures that can cause injustice within the administrative jurisdiction.

The Acting Clerk of the House, Mr. Olalekan Onafeko, was however, directed by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, forward a copy of the law to the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his approval.

The commission will also receive petitions from people who have any complaints and they will be able to seek redress.

According to the lawmakers, the law would also put an end to bribery and corruption in public office, as the commission would be saddled with the responsibility of beaming search light into government activities.
