PDP according to statement credited to the State Chairman, Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, said insecurity has become prevalent, as kidnapping, killing and related atrocities were being recorded on a frequent basis. PDP however, sympathized with the family of the kidnapped students, and called on the citizens of the State to have a day fasting for speedy recovery of the abducted students.
He said: ”We show our empathy and sympathize with the parents and guardians of these children, and called on residents to embark on a one-day fast for a speedy end to the security situation”.
Speaking further, he said: ”Many people have been thrown into IDP camps. The children in these camps no longer attend schools, no good healthcare, food and portable drinking water. The consequences of these rustlings and kidnappings have thrown the state into economic and social backwardness.
“However, fear has been thrown into the minds of residents of the whole state since there were semblances of kidnappings in local governments even not close to the front-line local governments”, Salisu stressed.
The State PDP Chairman through the statement, called on both the federal and state governments to become proactive more than reactive in addressing the security situation.
He said: ”The high increase in insecurity in Katsina state is of serious concern to all of us. The spate of killings, banditry and kidnappings are daily on the increase. This should be a source of concern to all as it cuts across all borders”.
Salisu through the signed statement recalled that, the in-laws of both the President and Governor of the state were kidnapped at one time. A Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairman was once kidnapped. A high profile Islamic scholar was kidnapped, maintaining that even though these persons were released, majority of the masses kidnapped on daily basis and payment of ransoms is a daily occurrence.
Aside these killings many more people have lost their lives in the course of the process of kidnapping or refusal to pay ransom or through torture in the hands of the kidnappers. He therefore stressed that aside the 10 frontline local governments areas of Sabuwa, Dandume, Faskari, Kankara, Danmusa, Batsari, Safana, Kurfi, Jibiya and Dutsinma that are most insecure, other local governments like Kankia, Matazu, Musawa have become very vulnerable”.
“As a result of cattle rustling and payment of ransom many families have been thrown into abject poverty to rescue their loved ones”. Salisu stated.
