How I Combine Music And Journalism-Neo Phlames
The of graduate of mass communication from the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu and BSc from National Open University spoke exclusively with the News Rain Nigeria about his music career and journalism profession.
How is it convenient, combining music and journalism?
Well, it’s not easy at all but God has been faithful. Journalism has also played major role in my music career so I believe God sets the plan for me purposely. Sometimes my show and assignment clash and I have to attend to both. So far so good, I am progressing and that is the most important thing. I will say in short that combining the two have been beneficial and relatively resourceful.
What inspires your songs?
Inspiration comes from anything and anywhere. Nigeria’s situation alone if enough to inspire me (laughs). Actually, the things I think and my surroundings make up my lyrics. Movies and life experiences generally inspires me too.
How far about your street events?
Yes that’s “Back to the Beginning” concert which I started last year at my childhood street. We couldn’t hold the event this year due to Covid-19 but it’s surely coming back next year when everything is clear. However, I also have a live concert I hold annually in Egbeda and it is in its third year but unfortunately couldn’t hold this year too due to Covid-19.
Your experience in the industry?
I have experienced the good and bad aspects of the industry but I am praying to have the good experience most. The industry has grown tremendously and it requires a lot of money to get yourself heard. It has gone beyond talent and the competition is getting hotter. Dem no dey catch later comer anyway, so I believe my time will come very soon
Are you getting what you expected in music?
Not yet but I thank God for the few real people who are showing me love and supporting my music
Who are your role models in the industry?
I don’t have any role model but I have few people who influenced my music from onset like Ebenezer Obey, 9ice, 2baba, Beautiful Nubia and so on.
What are in the offing?
I’m working on my EP presently but I am yet to pick a date for the release. It’s a 5 track extended play with a different sound and various theme to it. There’s a song for lovers, for greedy political leaders, for our mothers, for parties and lonely times too. It’s a special body of works.
