Lagos Government Is Set To Close Another Bridge For 3 Months.

 

 

 

News Rain Nigeria reports that the Lagos state government has informed residents of its plan to partially close the Marine Bridge for three months for emergency repair works.

According to Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the Lagos Commissioner for transportation, the bridge will remain closed from Tuesday, March 9, to Monday, June 21.

This was disclosed in a series of tweets posted on the official Twitter handle of the Lagos government, @followlasg. Oladeinde said the partial closure was necessary to maintain the bridge infrastructure.

Works to be carried out include the removal and cleaning of the existing expansion joints to prevent further deterioration.  While the bridge remains partially closed, traffic will be diverted to alternative routes.

The commissioner disclosed that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority will be on ground to manage the flow of traffic. Oladeinde appealed to vehicle owners plying the corridors to be patient and bear with the state government for the duration of repairs, saying it was for the benefit of all.

Reacting to the Lagos government’s tweet, a follower identified as Emeka Ezeagwuna called on Governor Sanwo-Olu to come to the aid of residents of Ajah-Ado road.

@EzeagwunaEmeka wrote: “Well done Your Excellency. Please, Sir, we need your help on the Ajah-Ado road. We are suffering on that road as a result of sand dredging activity. A journey from Ado to Ajah that is supposed to take 10 minutes now takes up to 2 hours due to the activities of these trucks. SOS.”

This is coming a few days after the federal government finally reopened the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos state after several months of being partially closed.

Recall that the bridge was partially shut for repairs on July 24, 2020. In a tweet on Saturday, February 27, the governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu informed Lagosians that rehabilitation works had been completed and the bridge was now accessible to all.
