The 2021 Ramadan fast is set to continue while Eid-Al-Fitr will be held on Thursday, May 13, Haramain Sharifain, an Islamic agency in Saudi Arabia, has declared.
News Rain Nigeria reports that as this year’s Ramadan nears its end, astronomers have been engaging in careful observation for a new moon to determine the day of Eid-Al-Fitr.
In a tweet on Tuesday, Haramain Sharifain announced that Ramadan will last for 30 days.
It said the conclusion was derived from the findings of astronomers positioned at different locations in Saudi Arabia, including Sumair and Tumair.
“The Crescent for the month of Shawwal 1442 was NOT SEEN today, subsequently #EidUlFitr will be on Thursday, 13 May 2021,” the tweet reads.
This development comes a day after the federal government announced Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays.
This was contained in a statement on Monday, May 10, by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Dr. Shuaib Belgore.
The statement quoted the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola while making the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government today in Abuja, as congratulating the Muslim faithful on the occasion.
Aregbesola, who believes that development cannot thrive in a rancorous atmosphere, urged all “Nigerians to be law-abiding and embrace the spirit of love, self-discipline, kindness, and tolerance, as taught by the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Upon Him)”.
