Speaking at the event, Publisher of TimelineNG and Host of the event Mr Yusuf Adeoye, stated that the organisers didn’t just present awards to deserving public servants, they also organised a lecture to create awareness about the harmonious relationship between the executive and legislative arm of government in Lagos state so that other states can leverage on it through the sensitisation program.
Mr Yusuf who clarified during an interview with the media at the event said the event wasn’t just political award, however, he said it is important to appreciate those that are doing fantastically well in the public sector so they can do more and encourage others to do same.
He said; “This is the 4th edition, it is a kind of Educative program that we tend to use to Educate the Public about political and socio economic awareness.
“We wanted to let the Public know how Lagos state government since 1999 has been able to work harmoniously with the legislative arm of the government to achieve some of those successes some people are envying in Lagos.
“That is how we picked our topic for this edition. Lagos state has been able to achieve a lot due to harmonious working relationship with the Executive arms of the government got from the legislative arm.
“We want other government to emulate Lagos style so that there will be continuity in government as we go to 2023 election”.
Yusuf added that the antecedents of the awardees overtime was the factor his team considered before deeming it fit to award them, such that it will spur them to do more.
Below are the remarks of some of the awardees at the function.
Honourable Femi Saheed, a member Lagos state House of Assembly representing Kosofe constituency 2 who was also an awardee said; “I feel happy, I feel elated and I think the award would spur me to do more. According to my slogan, service to the people, service to humanity.
“I really want to appreciate the Globestride media the promoter of TimelineNG for putting up this topic. The topic is timely, we are going into another electioneering process in 2023, when the right thing are being done by each arm of government, I think we will get a better result and move forward as a nation that is desirous for growth.
“Our democracy is growing with its challenges but they are definitely surmountable.
“There is no doubt in my mind that come Saturday, we are not going to have a successful convention. You know APC is the biggest party in Africa and it is a normal thing to have conflict of interests. I believe in the ability of the party to manage, succumb and come out successfully on Saturday”.
Prince Ladega Ibrahim Kehinde who stepped down for Honourable Femi Saheed in the last election also came in for a solidarity support to Honourable Femi Saheed.
He said; “Anything that concerns Femi Saheed concerns me. He has done so well by pushing people oriented bills, in terms of oversight, he has done so well. I believe he deserves the award”.
The representative of Honourable Moyosore Ogunlewe, S.A on special duties Alufohai Omokhudu on behalf of the chairman in an interview with the press said; “It is always a thing of joy when your effort is being rewarded. We are happy that in the short time of this administration, we have gotten so many awards but this is a bit important and we are happy.
“This award would only drive him to do more for the people of Kosofe. The organisers picked him through the polls, is not like we paid for it or did anything for it, they called us that we have an award for the chairman to pick.
“It is commendable, they have done a fantastic job, they should keep doing what they are doing”.
The recipient of award for the chairman Agboyi-Ketu Mr Dele Osinowo, Mrs Folake Kayode the Vice chairman Agboyi-ketu said; “What TimelineNG is doing is a very nice thing. When you are doing well and picked out of so many in the society, it spurs someone to do more.
“It is a way to say thank you and well-done. When you are appreciated, it makes you to do more. The chairman is doing extremely well and I am happy for him. This award is going to spur him to do more. He is doing well already and he is going to do more”.
The recipient of award on behalf of Honourable Babajimi Benson, Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan, senior lecturer Lagos State University LASU, in an interview said; “I think essentially it is always great when you are honoured. When people appreciate what you are doing.
“For me, Babajimi Benson is a star boy particularly in terms of sterling performance. Not only in terms of legislation but also in terms of using his position to lobbying, facilitate and fastrack meaningful program in the lives of the people in his constituency.
“And so today as we have been honoured, it is a reflection of what we have done and what we are still doing. The award is a reflection of what we have done and what we are still doing. The award to us is deserving and we are very happy about it.
“We see it as an opportunity to do more. It is a challenge to us and we will continue to make our people happy”.
A member Lagos State House of Assembly representing Mushin Honourable Olayiwola Olawale Omititi after receiving his award said; “Alihamdulilah. I am delighted that am one of those who were given the award, it really shows that some people somewhere are watching your activities.
“This kind of award is a kind of impetus to work harder and continue to do the good job one is doing as a legislator. The reward for good work is to have more work.
“I have bus that convene students to and from school. I have facilitated free IT programs. it is a kind of literacy program that has really exposed the Mushines.
“We have been doing this for almost 2 decades free of charge. ‘Owo Arugbo’ funds for the elderly that has popularized omititi concept. The five thousand naira we give to 200 elderly people in Mushin in solving their immediate needs goes a long way.
“When we talk about entrepreneurship program that we put in place, we train graduates and we teach them vocational skills, these interventions make us thick.
“I’m still consulting my people if I should contest again, I believe in my sense of judgement. If at the end of the day, the leaders and the followers ask me to go for 3rd term, I will take it. Personally I prefer to go for 3rd term”.
The deputy governor of Lagos state Dr Obafemi Hamzat was ably represented at the event by the commissioner for information and strategy Mr Gbenga Omotosho, who simultaneously gave the lecture and received the award for Lagos state as the center for excellence.
