Magboro Community Hold World Environment Day, As Commissioner For Environment Calls For Responsible Waste Management

To celebrate World Environment Day 2022, Magboro community held a walk for recycling and environmental sustainability awareness to carry out a clean-up exercise in the community.
The event took place on Saturday, 10th September 2022, at Magboro community high school Magboro Ogun State.
According to the organisers, the event was put together as part of efforts to ensure environmental justice, as Magboro is continually committed to the environment by upscaling its investment in the sustainability of the community through the creation of better household waste management and awareness of the impact of waste on humans and the environment.
Speaking at the event, Ogun state Commissioner For Environment, Dr. Oladimeji Oresanya called for responsible waste management that would engender a cleaner and healthier environment.
He said; the event is a community awareness about a clean environment, public hygiene, the benefit of community hygiene, and financial benefit of waste.

Also, it’s about the significance of clean-up to economic development of our community, So that is the kind of awareness we are doing here.
Also, to stimulate commitment by investors in the community to give back to the community and make sure that you have a kind of synergy between the resident and investors in the community to make sure that we have a clean healthier community.
Speaking further, the commissioner said; the challenges in keeping the environment clean boil down to knowledge. And knowledge determines your value. When you are knowledgeable about something it defines your value, so people need to be knowledgeable to know that this is for our own benefit. they are not just for health benefit, but for environmental benefit and also for financial benefit.
In conclusion, he said; ”the initiative is a call for action, and let’s just be determined to set standards and see that the community is the best”.
Magboro CDC Chairman Prince Adesina Olukoga also said this initiative was borne out of the need to curb waste dumping with intervention programmes set in place to support the communities, such as the provision of waste bins and tools while creating awareness of the impact of waste.
He noted that his administration had put in place plans to curb indiscriminate waste disposal, urging residents to cooperate with us at ensuring a cleaner environment, saying ”Magboro is our priority and we don’t joke with it, it’s something we are serious about to make sure it’s a place people look up to”.
Finally, Mrs. Yetunde Oyebade, CEO The Palm City Group said; ” It’s a form of our CSR for the community, and it’s a commitment for us. We are glad that with the help of the Ogun state government and other companies we are able to make it a success”.
”I am a food sustainability expert and it is my duty to make sure that my environment is safe, by making sure that any kind of waste in the environment goes through proper management, prevents health issues, and also makes our environment is cleaner and look better”.
Also, I must say that I really appreciate the turn-up, as you can see everyone is representing different CDAs and we hope that when they go back to their CDAs, they are able to disseminate the information they’ve heard today from the commissioner of environment and other guests, by making every member of the community understand the importance of waste management”.
”Finally, my message to everyone is that knowledge is key, we should get it, be informed about things going on in our environment, and be informed about the value of the waste we are producing. Information is key because at this point in time the world is desperate” she concluded.
