Founder of DAAR Communications, owners of AIT and Raypower FM, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi is dead.

He died in the early hours of Monday in an Abuja hospital after a short illness.

Below Are Few Things You Should Know About Him;

1. Chief Raymond Anthony Aleogho Dokpesi was born on October 25, 1951, in Ibadan

2. He was 71.


3. He was a media entrepreneur.

4. He hailed from Agenebode, Edo state in a family of six sister siblings.

5. Dokpesi started his early schooling at Loyola College Ibadan.

6. He joined the Immaculate Conception College (ICC) Benin City where he was the pioneer member of Ozolua Playhouse, a dance/drama group.

7. He did his undergraduate studies in the University of Benin, Edo State, and completed his studies in University of Gdansk, Poland where he earned his Doctorate degree in Marine Engineering.

8. His studies, from secondary school to university level was sponsored by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

9. He entered the Nigerian mass media industry with his company DAAR Communications and set up the Nigerian TV network Africa Independent Television (AIT).

10. He was the organising committee chairman of the People’s Democratic Party national conference in 2015.

11. Dokpesi started as the personal assistant to Alhaji Bamaga Tukur one of the general manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

12. Dokpesi also served as a civil servant in the Federal Ministry of Transport under Alhaji Umaru Dikko and General Garba Wushishi.

13. The association of Raymond Dokpesi with the likes of the Tukurs and the late Abiola, resulted in the birth of African Ocean Lines (AOL).

14. In May 2020, Dokpesi survived COVID-19.

15. He died in an Abuja hospital after he suffered a stroke. This reportedly happened after the recent Ramadan fast. The AIT boss had since then been managing his health and was placed on occupational therapy to improve his daily activities before his sudden death.
