According to a statement by the Kano State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the order came in response to a directive from the state government.
Gumel emphasized the importance of preserving law and order in the state.

The police have deployed combined security forces throughout the city, covering all corners, entry, and exit points, to ensure strict compliance with the curfew.
He said, “Residents of Kano State are warned that violating this curfew order will have serious consequences. Anyone found in violation will be arrested and made to face the full force of the law.”
The commissioner also expressed his gratitude to the peace-loving people of the state, urging them to remain law-abiding during this challenging time.
Recall that hours earlier, the tribunal declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasiru Gawuna, as the winner of the March 18 election, prompting celebration among supporters of the APC.
The judgement nullified the election of Yusuf, who contested on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The three-man judicial panel, after hearing the petitions, ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return which INEC presented to Yusuf and directed a certificate of return to be issued to Gawuna.
