King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace revealed in a statement on its website on Monday.
This is coming after the King visited a London hospital last month for a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.
“During the King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted.
“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer,” the palace said in the statement.
Buckingham Palace did not provide any specifics regarding the type and stage of the cancer.
Recall that last week, both King Charles and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were released from a private London clinic following their medical procedures.
The king underwent a medical procedure for an enlarged prostate, while Kate, 42, also had surgery on January 17 to address an abdominal issue.
“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.
“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake state business and official paperwork as usual,” the statement disclosed.
According to the statement, the king wanted to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation about his condition.
The king also shared his diagnosis “in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.
“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
