#EdoDecides24: INEC To Start Collation Of Results By 10 am

INEC has announced that the collation of results from the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday will commence at 10 am today.

According to reportr, the collation centre for the election was opened at 9 pm on Saturday, September 21, soon after polling ended in LGAs.

In a statement on Sunday, Anugbum Onuoha, resident electoral commissioner (REC) in Edo, said the “collation process is being conducted transparently and following the guidelines of INEC”.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation of all parties as we strive to ensure a credible and accurate outcome of this important election,” the statement reads.

Onuoha also asked stakeholders to maintain peace and order as the commission seeks to conclude the process.

At the time of reporting, police have asked journalists and election observers to leave the collation centre.

Tension has been palpable in the state following the display of some polling unit results on the election viewing portal (IReV).

The INEC headquarters in Benin, the state capital, serves as the collation centre for the election.

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, was asked to leave the INEC headquarters in the wee hours of Sunday and was escorted out of the premises by mobile police operatives deployed to the commission’s office.

As of 6:32 am on Sunday, 4,443 polling unit results — out of 4,519 — have been uploaded on the IReV.

It showed that Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC was leading in the Edo North Senatorial District, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, was ahead in Edo South Senatorial District.
