The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya, originally slated for October 15, will no longer occur as planned.

In a statement released Tuesday afternoon, CAF confirmed that the situation between the two nations is under review and “will be referred to the competent CAF bodies” for further action.

The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight,” the brief statement read.

The governing body added that the appropriate CAF authorities will determine further developments.

The statement reads: “The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 Qualifier fixture between Libya and Nigeria will not take place as scheduled tonight. The matter will be referred to the competent CAF bodies.”

The statement did not specify a date for the second leg encounter, leaving football fans hopeful as they await decisions from CAF regarding the fixture.

Recall that the game was earlier scheduled to take place today, Tuesday, in Libya by 8 pm after the first leg took place in Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Friday.

Super Eagles defeated the Mediterranean Knights by a lone goal in the 86th minute.

Also, recall that CAF announced on Monday that it has launched an investigation into the incident, following allegations of sabotage made by the Libya Football Federation, which has also threatened legal action against Nigeria.
