1. The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) has distributed N1.298 trillion to the Federal, State, and Local Governments as revenue for September 2024. This was disclosed at the end of the October 2024 FAAC meeting in Abuja on Thursday.

2. The federal government has officially announced the termination of fuel and foreign exchange subsidies, marking the end of a long-debated policy. Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, made this declaration during the presentation of the Nigeria Development Update by the World Bank in Abuja on Thursday, October 17.

3. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced November 8, 2025, as the date for the off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022. Announcing this at a meeting with leaders of political parties on Thursday, INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu said a formal notice for the election will be published on 13th November, 2024.

4. The World Bank has warned that reversing the federal government’s economic policies will spell doom for Nigeria. The World Bank’s Country Director for Nigeria, Dr. Ndiame Diop, gave the warning in Abuja yesterday during the launch of the Nigeria Development Update (NDU) report titled ‘Staying the Course: Progress amid Pressing Challenges’.

5. Many of the illicit weapons currently used by terrorists and bandits originally belonged to the Federal Government, according to the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu. Ribadu spoke at the Arms Destruction Exercise organised by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons on Thursday in Abuja.

6. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recognised Julius Abure as Chairman of the Labour Party (LP). In a letter addressed to Barrister Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Secretary of the Commission, Mrs Rose Oriaran-Anthony, invited them to the fourth consultative meeting with the political parties, on Thursday in Abuja.

7. At least three persons sustained injuries after a CNG-powered vehicle exploded at NIPCO filling station in Benin, City, Edo State. It was gathered that the incident happened Thursday morning at the NIPCO gas station located in Aduwawa on the Benin-Auchi road in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.

8. The Federal Government has promised to assist Jigawa State in rebuilding and rehabilitating Majia town, the location of the fuel tanker explosion, where 153 lives were lost on Tuesday evening. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, gave the assurance on Thursday when he led the Federal Government delegation on a condolence visit to the state.

9. Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed on Thursday confronted the World Bank over the latter’s claims that a reversal of the federal government’s current economic reforms would spell doom for the country, insisting that the reforms are not working. The governor disclosed that people are hungry and that people of his status face the threat of being lynched.

10. The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, NIHSA, has advised Nigerians living around river banks along the River Benue Basin to quickly move to safer grounds. Director-General of NIHSA, Umar Mohammed, who gave the warning in a statement yesterday, said water on the River Benue has reached the flooding level due to increased rainfall.
