In a strategic move towards exploring collaboration aimed at improving the healthcare delivery in the country, the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP) led by its Director-General Joseph Tegbe, held a meeting with the Honourable Minister of State for the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Dr Isiaq Salako.
The meeting, which took place at the Conference Room of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, marks a significant step forward in leveraging Chinese technology and expertise in the medical and healthcare sector.
Discussions and deliverables focused on the transformation and enhancement of Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure using Chinese expertise, technology, and funding, considering that healthcare is one of the priority areas of Nigeria’s elevated partnership with China.
The meeting considered some large healthcare/medical organizations, including Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who have shown interest in investing in the Nigerian health sector, with details of the collaboration being finalized.
The collaboration would involve partnerships for hospital renovations and construction, acquiring advanced medical equipment from China, transferring skills and technology to enhance Nigeria’s healthcare delivery, and setting up mini-grids for strategic health institutions.
The meeting noted that the elevated partnership with China and the establishment of the NCSP are testaments to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foresight in recognizing China as a preferred development partner for Nigeria.
The proposed health sector collaboration will involve facilitating opportunities for joint ventures or partnerships between Nigerian and Chinese companies to improve healthcare delivery with innovative Chinese technologies, such as multi-functional test kits, delivery and maintenance of medical equipment, and training of Nigerian personnel.
Director-General NCSP and the Honourable Minister agreed on follow-up interaction between the Health Ministry and relevant OEMs to finalize specific areas of interest based on priority needs in the sector.
This provides an opportunity for the NCSP to leverage the Ministry’s technical expertise to ensure Nigeria gets optimum value from the acquisition of equipment.
By driving strategic investments and projects, the NCSP aims to promote industrialization, economic diversification, and long-term growth in Nigeria in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
