CCTV Video Of Nigerian Military Officers Invading And Destroying Ikeja Electric Office

A new closed-circuit television, CCTV, video has surfaced online, showing how military officers invaded the Ikeja Electric office and assaulted staff members.

The video, circulating on X on Monday, captures armed officers storming the premises, kicking down doors, and barging into offices.

According to the footage posted on X by popular Arise TV journalist Oseni Rufai, the officers, fully kitted in military gear and wielding whips, were seen entering offices without permission. One female employee was captured on camera fleeing towards the stairs.

This follows a report on the 6th of March, which detailed how armed military personnel invaded Ikeja Electric.

Ikeja Electric stated that the invasion occurred after it disconnected a military office over an outstanding electricity bill debt amounting to N4 billion.

Reacting to the incident, Sunday Oduntan, the spokesperson for electricity distribution companies in Nigeria, expressed his concerns during an interview on TVC on Monday.

I am really scared. They are threatening me,” he said, calling on the National Security Adviser and the government to intervene.

Also, responding to inquiries, the Nigerian Army’s Director of Information, Onyema Nwachukwu, dismissed reports of an attack, describing the incident as a “misunderstanding” following a fire outbreak.

I’ve reached out to the unit to confirm your report. Contrary to what you have, no EKEDC staff was detained by soldiers,” Mr Nwachukwu, a major general, said.

During the response efforts, a minor misunderstanding arose between a company staff member and one of the soldiers, but it was promptly resolved amicably.

Additionally, I understand the unit’s leadership and the company’s management have consistently maintained a strong and cordial relationship, which remains unchanged.”

Mr Nwachukwu added that the unit’s commanding officer has set up a board of inquiry to investigate the cause of the fire.
