Top Nigerian Newspaper Headlines And Naija News For Sunday 25th May 2025.

1. Former Chief Whip of the Senate, and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has said the new appointment of northerners by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu into key government parastatals and agencies has addressed the imbalance in his previous appointments. Ndume in a statement on Saturday described the appointments as a reflection of President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive governance.

2. Mr Ehiogie West-Idahosa, counsel to the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Saturday, confirmed receipt of details of a suit filed against the lawmaker by the Federal Government, saying her legal team is ready to present credible evidence before the court during trial. West-Idahosa, in a statement, said the suit was received at about 2:30pm on Friday, May 23, 2025, in the premises of the Federal Capital Territory High court, Abuja.

3. There is panic in Abuja over plans by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to revoke 4, 794 properties over non-payment of ground rent. The National secretariat of the People Democratic Party (PDP) located in the Central Business District, private and government owned properties are at risk of being sealed off by FCTA officials over alleged failure to pay ground rents of over 19 years.

4. A Catholic priest, Rev Fr.Solomom Atongo was yesterday evening shot by hoodlums suspected to be herdsmen. According to a statement by Rev. Joseph Beba, who is the Chairman, Diocesan Priests, Rev. Atongo was shot on Makurdi-Naka road on his way from Naka, headquarters of Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State.

5. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) North Central zone on Saturday elected Abdulrahman Mohammed Takushara National Vice Chairman of the party for the zone. Takushara was elected with 526 votes after his rival for the position, Stephen Abraham Ajiya, staged a walk out, alleging undue pressure on him by some party leaders to step down.

6. A suspected terrorist was reportedly killed on Friday in a gun battle between troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the Eastern Security Network. The troops had gone to raid the ESN camp in the Ebubengwa/Abayi Nchokoro area of Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State.

7. Tears flowed freely on Saturday as grieving residents of Munga Lalau and Munga Doso communities in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State buried scores of villagers killed by suspected herdsmen. The communities were thrown into mourning after the assailants stormed the villages around 2am on Friday.

8. Tragedy occurred in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State when some yet-to-be-identified assailants murdered a family of four comprising three females and one elderly man in their apartment. It was gathered that the killers invaded their apartment while they were sleeping, killed them and left their lifeless bodies on the floor of their rooms.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested eight suspects in connection with the theft of three vehicles across different parts of the territory, including a couple said to have used master keys bought online to facilitate the crimes. The command also announced the recovery of the stolen vehicles following intelligence-led operations carried out by its operatives between April 19 and April 28, 2025.

10. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) says the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) will undergo a maintenance shutdown. Mr Olufemi Soneye, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Ltd., said in a statement on Saturday that scheduled maintenance and sustainability assessment would commence on May 24, 2025.
