1. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared his withdrawal from all previously reached agreements aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party, pledging to continue the struggle until justice is achieved. In a statement on Sunday, Wike expressed concerns over what he described as consistent breaches of agreed resolutions, specifically blaming Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for fueling the party’s internal problems.
2. Concerned by the persistent network failures and poor service quality across the country, the Nigerian Communications Commission has directed telecom operators to inform consumers promptly of any major outages or disruptions that could impact network performance and service delivery. The directive follows mounting complaints from users over issues such as frequent network breakdowns, rapid data depletion, and others.
3. A group of Northern political elite may have thrown their weight behind a proposed national coalition movement to be led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. It was gathered that the decision was reached at a meeting by the politicians under the aegis of the National Political Consultative Group (North-NPCG), in Abuja on Sunday.
4. National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, has said that the discussions on coalition will be concluded within the next two weeks. Nwosu, in an interview with journalists at the weekend, disclosed that the various committees set up by the party had met with those involved in the talks.
5. The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) says the Air Component of Operation Delta Safe, has between January and May, destroyed more than 100 illegal refining sites through airstrikes in the Niger Delta. The Director, Public Relations and Information, NAF, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, made this known in a statement on Sunday, in Abuja.
6. Security operatives comprising the police and Vigilantes have arrested the village head of Guiwa, in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, Garba Mohammed, for allegedly aiding banditrin the LGA and other parts of the state. It was learnt on Sunday that the village head was arrested alongside 13 others on Friday at around 9am, following an intelligence report about their alleged involvement with bandits.
7. No fewer than 200,000 more candidates crossed the 200 average mark in the Unified Tertiary and Matriculation Examination after the recent resit organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Examination Board, following the technical and human errors that marred the original exam. In the resit UTME results released on Sunday, JAMB noted that the majority of candidates, 1,365,479 scored below 200 after both the original exam and the resit.
8. Imo State Police Command has arrested 147 suspects for crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, rape, stealing, receiving stolen property, child trafficking, and terrorism. The police spokesperson for the state command, Henry Okoye, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday.
9. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, and the Apapa Seaport, Lagos, have recovered drugs worth about N6.5bn. The drugs included more than six million pills of opioids, specifically Tamol 225mg, Tapentadol 225mg, and Carisoprodol 225mg, as well as 332,000 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup.
10. A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Solomon Atongo, was on Saturday attacked and shot by gunmen suspected to be armed herders along the Makurdi/Naka Road in the Gwer West Local Government Area of Benue State. According to a source, the Catholic priest, who was a priest of Jimba parish, was driving along the notorious Makurdi/Naka road when he was shot around Tyolaha by suspected armed herders.
