See Details As Family Of Late Olubadan Announces Burial Date Of The Monarch

The family of the late Olubadan has announced the funeral rites and farewell activities of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan, H.I.M. Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I).
According to a statement from the family signed by his first son, Prince Olasunmbo Owolabi Olakulehin, the monarch will be given a state burial on Friday, 8th August 2025, as approved by the Oyo State Governor, with the Church service and interment taking place at the Cathedral of Saint Peter’s, Aremo, Ibadan, from 10:00 a.m.
Prince Olakulehin stated that preceding the state burial will be a series of activities, including events which were rescheduled for the official 21-day mourning period of the traditional ruler.
Activities commemorating the funeral rites will commence on Sunday, August 3, 2025, with the Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup Semi-Final matches at Bishop Philips Academy Stadium, Ibadan, at 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
On Monday, August 4, 2025, the Oba Olakulehin Table Tennis Tournament Preliminaries will take place at the Indoor Hall of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, at 10:00 a.m.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, the Olubadan Olakulehin Football Cup will feature the 3rd Place Face-Off at the Olubadan Stadium, Ibadan, starting at 2:00 p.m., followed by the Cup final at 4:00 p.m.
Oba Olakulehin Table Tennis Tournament Finals on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, will conclude the earlier rescheduled sporting activities to commemorate the monarch’s 90th birthday and first coronation anniversary.
Before the eighth burial of the late monarch on Friday, his body will lie in state during an interfaith service at Mapo Hall on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., while a Christian wake service will be held at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, at 3:00 p.m.
Oba Olakulehin’s farewell will be concluded with a family thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at the Cathedral of Saint Peter, Aremo, Ibadan, at 10:00 a.m.
Prince Olakulehin’s statement expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, Olubadan – In – Council, traditional and religious leaders, politicians, representatives of corporate bodies, Ibadan groups and associations, Ibadan indigenes, ethnic groups, residents of Ibadan, professional bodies, the good people of Oyo State, and Nigerians in general for their condolences, sympathies, and support.
Recall that Olakulehin joined his ancestors on Monday, July 7, 2025, at the age of 90 years during a brief illness in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
