Arsenal Defeat Chelsea

Arsenal has defeated Chelsea

NewsRain Nigeria reports that Arsenal scored a 2-1 win over Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.

The victory means the Gunners remain five points clear of the chasing Manchester City ahead of the midweek matches.

The London derby was feisty and keenly contested, but decided by goals from corner kicks, with William Saliba and Jurrien Timber netting for Arsenal, while Piero Hincape’s own goal was all Chelsea mustered for their efforts.

Roberto Sanchez was jittery in goal for Chelsea, gifting Arsenal the ball when trying to play out from the back, but the hosts could not capitalize, while Eberechi Eze almost caught out the Spanish goalkeeper from inside his own half, but he recovered to stop the ball.

Arsenal are known for their prowess from corner kicks, and they took the lead from another one on 21 minutes as Saliba directed Gabriel’s header back towards goal, hitting a Chelsea player before crossing the line for 1-0 to the Gunners.

They were paid in kind for the equaliser two minutes into the first half added time, with defender Hincape inadvertently heading Reece James’ delivery into the net for an own goal, as both sides went into the break level.

Chelsea were more energetic at the start of the second half and went close through Enzo Fernadez’s long-range strike, and Joao Pedro’s header from a corner kick.

Arsenal recovered from the stutter and scored the winner through Timber’s header from a corner kick for 2-1.

Chelsea received their seventh red card of the campaign after Pedro Neto was dismissed for two bookable offences, and the Gunners saw out the hard-fought victory.

Arsenal improved to 64 points from 29 matches, five points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, who have a game in hand, while Chelsea remain in sixth place.

In earlier matches, Alex Iwobi scored what proved to be the match-winner as Fulham bested Tottenham 2-1 at Craven Cottage.

The 29-year-old took his shot first time from outside the area, and it nestled low into the far corner to double Fulham’s lead, and push Spurs deeper into relegation trouble.
