Atiku has declared that 2027 will be his last presidential contest.

NewsRain Nigeria reports that Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the 2027 presidential election will be his final attempt to become Nigeria’s president, ruling out any possibility of seeking the office again in 2031.

According to a report by Vanguard, Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), disclosed during a Hausa-language interview on Wednesday while responding to a question on whether he would contest again if he lost the 2027 election.

“No, I have said it before, right from this election, I will not contest again,” he said.

Atiku, who has contested the presidency several times, said he had already made up his mind not to seek another presidential ticket beyond 2027.

He also urged Nigerians who have Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to participate actively in the 2027 election, stressing that voting remains an important means of changing the country’s situation.

The former vice president further advised voters not to leave their polling units immediately after casting their ballots, but to remain and monitor the counting process to ensure their votes were properly recorded.

He appealed to eligible voters to vote for the sake of their families and future, describing participation in the election as a means of addressing the challenges facing the country.

Atiku also dismissed concerns about his capacity to handle the demands of the presidency, insisting that he remained physically fit and capable of governing Nigeria.

He said no doctor had declared him medically unfit and maintained that he was in good health and had no physical condition that would prevent him from serving as president.
