Super Eagles’ Abdullahi Shehu Quits Turkish Club

Abdullahi Shehu, Super Eagles defender has parted ways with the Turkish side, Bursaspor.

News Rain gathered that the former Kano Pillars player revealed his decision to leave after two and a half years at the club via his Twitter handle on Saturday.

Shehu tweeted: “After two and a half years at Bursa City with 60 games, beautiful and ugly moments, it is time to say goodbye. A difficult decision, but the time has come to move on.

“Where do I begin? When I received the offer from Bursaspor in January 2018, I was convinced it was the best decision of my career to play at this big club with a huge history in Turkish football.

“It was an emotional day when I made my competitive debut against Alayanspor, four days after my unveiling. My first home game against Besiktas was incredible with the Crocodiles.

 

“To play for one of the biggest clubs in the Turkish League, to become part of the Bursa family, to work with some of the best managers and players in the world has truly been an honour.

“We fought hard in 2019 and relegated, it was an ugly experience. I had offers to play in the first division but I decided to stay with this great club, my passion and loyalty for the Bursas badge. It was my best decision and I didn’t regret making such a sacrifice for this lovely family.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t make it back to the Super Lig this year and my decision to move on was to embrace another challenge in my career and I am really grateful to the Bursaspor fans and family for their support throughout my time at the club.

“To everyone at Bursaspor, I want to say goodbye and thank you. You will always be part of who I am and I wish Bursaspor the best of luck next season. I’m certainly going to miss my teammates, coaches, staff, management and superb fans that acted me like a king.”

Recall that Shehu signed for the Cyprus First Division side Omonia Nicosia on On 19 September 2020.

It will be recalled that in July 2014, Shehu who signed for the Cyprus First Division side Omonia Nicosia on On 19 September 2020 moved from Kano Pillars to Kuwait Premier League side Qadsia SC in a deal worth $480,000, of which Abdullahi received $330,000 and Kano Pillars $150,000.

And on 6 June 2015, Shehu joined newly promoted Primeira Liga side C.F. Uniãoon a two-year deal. And on 2 September 2016, Shehu joined Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta on a two-year deal worth for the 20% of the player re-sale fee in other European clubs.

On 24 January 2018, Shehu signed for two and a half years Turkish side Bursaspor for an undisclosed fee.

Also in January 2014, Senior team coach Stephen Keshi invited him to be a part of the Nigeria national football team squad for the 2014 African Nations Championship. He helped the team to a third-place finish after Nigeria beat Zimbabwe by a goal to nil. He was later selected by Nigeria for their 35-man provisional squad for the 2016 Summer Olympics.
In May 2018 he was named in Nigeria’s preliminary 30-man squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
