Police Inspector Dies After Accidentally Shooting Himself

A police inspector, Aminu Ibrahim, attached to the Kano State Command, has died after he was hit by a bullet from his rifle in the Hotoro area of the state.

A police source disclosed that the incident occurred on Saturday.

According to the source, Ibrahim was on duty with a company he was attached to when the tragedy struck.

The police source added that the sound of the gunshots attracted the staff members of the company, who found the officer lying motionless on the ground.

Meanwhile, a security expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X on Sunday, stated that the rifle, with registration number GT 4177, was later recovered in a cocked position with one empty shell.

He added that the victim was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by a doctor on duty.

His corpse has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy,” he added.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Kano State Police Command, Haruna Abdulahi, stated that the incident and other reports in the state would be addressed during a press briefing scheduled for Monday.

He said, “I can’t give you details on it now. The CP will address a press briefing tomorrow where the incident and other activities in the state will be made known.”
