Hotspots for COVID-19 in Lagos state has been revealed by the commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi.

 

 

News Rain Nigeria gathered that Lagos State Commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi has revealed the five hotspots for COVID-19.

They include: Eti-Osa, Ajeromi, Surulere, Amuwo-Odofin, and Mushin.

In a tweet on 1 January Abayomi described the five LGAs as high burden areas.

They led in tests positivity of between 27 and 25 percent.

They are followed by Apapa with 24 percent and Agege 20 percent.

Recall that presently, Lagos leads Nigeria’s COVID-19 grim statistics with 30,830 cases and 247 fatalities.

On Friday, the state reported a record 642 infections, out of 2,053 tests conducted.

In tweets Saturday, Abayomi said 4,527 people infected with COVID-19 in the state are currently undergoing home-based treatment.

“Cases currently under isolation-140

“New #COVID19 infections confirmed 642 at a positive rate of 31.3%

Abayomi in a previous tweet appealed to residents to stay safe, avoid crowded places, and celebrate responsibly.

He urged those who have no reason to move around to stay at home.

Earlier, the government rolled out new travel rules for passengers coming in from South Africa and the United Kingdom which takes effect from Monday, December 28.

This was as a result of the discovery of a new variant of COVID-19 in these countries.

During a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, December 24, the national coordinator of the Presidential Task Force (PTF), Dr Sani Aliyu, said all passengers coming from both countries must use the Nigerian international travel portal to register.

In another update, the government said travelers from both countries will have to undergo COVID-19 test before being allowed to enter Nigeria.

With effect from Tuesday, December 29, they must take the test within 96 hours pre-boarding and show proof of payment of arrival repeat test in Nigeria.
