The forthcoming gubernatorial election in Ondo State is getting more interesting on daily basis as the Gubernatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP)  in the State, Eyitayo Jegede SAN has condemned the plan by Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu to owe workers salaries in the state due to effect of Covid-19.
The PDP candidate Jegede made know his gesture on Thursday in Akure through a press statement that was signed and issued by his spokesperson, Gbenga  Akinmoyo.
Gbenga Akinyomo who is the mouthpiece of Eyitayo Jegede Campaign Organization(EJCO) stated in the statement that was made available to newsmen at the State Capital, that  “There were reports that Governor Akeredolu during the inauguration of the 957-member committee that will take charge of his re-election bid on Wednesday, at the DOME said workers in the state might not receive their salaries as and when due starting from next month because of increase in wage bill as a result of the effect of COVID-19 pandemic on the State economy.
Akinyomo in his statement described Governor Rotimi Akeredolu moves to owe the State workers, as evil and callous.
He stated that “the intention is evil, callous and an act of irresponsibility to the plight of the people of Ondo State.”
He stressed that any serious government would rather be focused on how to alleviate the sufferings of the people rather than worsening the situation.
Akinyomo however used the medium to assure the people of the state of Eyitayo Jegede’s readiness to make the State worker’s welfare’s his priority.
He said “Jegede has assured the people of the state of his readiness to bring smiles to their faces soonest and urged the people to be ready for a government that would be people-centered and worker-friendly, by taking their welfare as a major priority.
Part of the statement reads thus “These comments by Arakurin Akeredolu are coming so soon after his plea for rotational Governorship, which has now been shot to pieces by a governor who is clearly unable to provide the people with what they deserve.
“It is not surprising coming from a government whose record of accountability is very poor – the missing N4.3 billion remains a sore point in the minds of the workers.
“Rather than pursue and deliver good governance, Akeredolu is hiding behind the shield of the Covid-19 pandemic, in spite of the enormous funds that were released by the Federal Government to Ondo State to help absorb the financial effects associated with the outbreak.”
