Bayelsa Bye-Election: APC Leaders Reject Imposition Of Candidates
All Progressive Congress Bayelsa State Chapter has rejected the imposition move of candidates by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, ahead of the forthcoming by-election for the Bayelsa Central and West Senatorial Districts, that is slated for 31st, October 2020.
NewsRain gathered that Some APC chieftains in the State, have petitioned the National Caretaker Committee led by Governor Mai Mala Buni over the conduct of one of the party stalwarts in the State, Timipre Sylva.
The petition letter which was signed by Godwin Sidi, Hon. Dressman, Sunday Frank-Oputu (Bayelsa Central); Peter Ozobo, Ebide Brown and Moses Hitler (Bayelsa West), and was dated September 2, 2020,
The leaders, who are members of the APC Constitutional and Due Process Vanguard, alleged that Sylva and his supporters were plotting to impose candidates for the bye-elections without consultations.
The APC leaders show their grievances through the petition that was written by a law firm, Reuben Egwuaba & Co, called on the party’s caretaker committee chairman to stop Sylva and a few others from causing an unnecessary crisis in the party by pushing for candidates of their choice.

The petitioners said, “Sylva’s style of leadership, especially his decision to work with a few members of the State Executive Committee and select only his loyalists from his senatorial district for the few slots of federal appointments was responsible for his difference with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri and others, which have factionalized the party in the state.
The aggrieved APC noted that Sylva, who is neither from Bayelsa Central nor West, was bent on forcing on the APC his preferred candidates who only recently defected to the party from the PDP and had not even spent the requisite number of days to qualify them for nomination for elective positions.
