LG Polls: A’Ibom Sets To Shut Interstate Borders
Akwa Ibom Government has shut interstate movements ahead of Saturday poll.
News Rain Nigeria reports that Akwa Ibom State Government on Wednesday disclosed the closure of all its interstate borders over the Saturday Local Government elections.
The closure according to the statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwen is to ensure adequate security of lives and properties and to also have peaceful, free, and fair elections across the State, before, during, and after the poll.

Dr. Ekuwen maintained that the effect of the closure will be from 7 am – 2 pm on Saturday, 31st October 2020, which is the day that has been scheduled for the said elections.
The eligible indigenes of the State are expected to come and use the ballot to decide who will be their leaders at all the 31 Local Government Councils of the State
The statement maintained that no human and vehicular movements are allowed within the State from 7 am to 2 pm on the said day.
The state government has therefore advised eligible voters to stay within the premises of their polling units during the period of the elections.

The statement, however, exempted those on essential duties, viz: medical personnel, electoral officials and election observers, accredited pressmen from the movement restrictions.
Dr. Ekuwen stressed that in order to enable active participation of civil servants in the election, work will close at 2 pm on Friday 30 October 2020.
