University of Ibadan Senate members has disassociated self from SSANU, NASU.
News Rain Nigeria reports that the Senate members of the University of Ibadan on Wednesday, 4th, November 2020, at the conclusion of its meeting disassociated self from the Senior Staff Association of Nigeria University (SSANU), and Non – Academic Staff Union (NASU), of the University over the last week Wednesday protest.
The Senate meeting which was presided over by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Adebola Eekanola, also issued resolutions as regards the ongoing appointment process of the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution.

The meeting which had in attendant not less than One hundred and eighty-eight (188), members of the Senate through its resolutions disassociated self from the protest of the SSANU, and NASU also described the Unions actions as unfortunate.
Addressing journalists at the floor of the International Conference Center of the University, the former Dean of Faculty of Law, Prof. Oluyemisi Bamgbose SAN, said, the chairman of Council highly disrespected the following activities of the Unions.
Prof. Bamgbose stressed that the Senate members noted that the event was unfortunate and regrettable, that the actions by the Senior Staff Association Nigeria University (SSANU), and the Non – Academic Union (NASU), of the University, on Wednesday, October 28, 2020, was condemned in its strongest term.
The Senate members through the resolution stressed that the Unions do not have any role to play in the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor.
Prof. Bamgbose, while reading the resolution also maintained through the resolution that, the Senate affirmed that the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor thus far had been in line with the extant law, and it will continue and will be concluded forthwith.
Senate members of the University of Ibadan, also affirms its confidence in the Council, and the process of appointing the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution thus far maintained that the Senate should appoint some representatives to visit the Minister of Education with a copy of the resolutions taken at the meeting today.
The normal University disciplinary procedure should be instituted to deal with the parts of the earring forthwith, as in with immediate effect, and without delay.
The press briefing which had in attendance the Prof. Simisola Oluwatoyin Akintola, the Dean Faculty of Law University of Ibadan, Prof. Adams Onuka, Dean of the Institute of Education, University of Ibadan, Prof. Oyebamiji Babalola amongst other, further stressed that the Senate also noted that the petitioners should be percify, that Prof. Peter Olapegba and Prof. Ezekiel Ayoola should be percified, pending the outcome of the internal of the disciplinary measures.
The University of Ibadan, disassociate itself from the actions of the above Unions, the Senate also noted that the SSANU, NASU were not acting on behalf of any officers of any Unit of the University, neither were their actions taken in the course of their duty.
