Strange Disease Hits Oyo Communities, 11 Dead, Five Hospitalised
Eleven persons have been reportedly killed by yet to be identified sickness in Ibadan.
News Rain Nigeria gathered that not less than 11 persons have been killed due to strange ailments the broke in at Ariku and Lagun area of Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.
The sickness according to a resident of the affected communities, who disclosed on condition of anonymity said that the sickness which is suspected to be a cholera outbreak was first recorded in Ariku Village where it killed five people before it later spread to Lagun Community all in the same Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.

News Rain Nigeria also gathered that 5 people are currently on admission in the hospital battling for survival with their lives due to the sickness.
However, some people have attributed the symptoms from the victims of the deadly sickness to cholera.
Meanwhile, the Oyo State Government has reacted to the development, says the sickness has not been established as results of samples taken from the victims are still being awaited.
Dr. Bello maintained that the surveillance and health officers sent to the local government to take samples and assess the situation reported the poor unhygienic and dirty environment where the victims reside, saying that could have exposed them to all sorts of sickness and infections.
He said, all the persons suffering from the sickness have been hospitalized and are responding to treatment.
The commissioner, however, called for calm among residents of the state, assuring that the state government is on top of the situation.
Mr. Kelani Abdulahi, who is the Caretaker Chairman of Lagelu Local Government, also confirmed that 11 people have lost their lives as a result of the outbreak of the epidemic, with five persons currently hospitalized while four persons have been discharged.
Kelani noted that part of the immediate action taken by the government was to investigate the cause of the sickness, adding that investigation revealed that it was due to lack of access to clean and potable water by the affected persons.
News Rain Nigeria also gathered that the lawmaker representing Lagelu State constituency, Hon. Akintunde Olajide was reported to have visited the affected communities.
Hon. Olajide who visited the communities alongside the LCDA and Local Government Caretaker Chairmen confirmed that a preliminary investigation into the cause of the sickness revealed that it was largely due to lack of access to clean and potable water.
He stressed that all the boreholes that could provide clean water to the villages are not working, making residents of the communities fetch water from a nearby stream and few available wells.
Olajide has however ordered the immediate repair of three boreholes out of the four in the communities, in order to make potable water readily available for the residents, noted that although five people were hospitalized, one has already been discharged while the remaining four are responding well to treatments.
