Newspapers vendors in Abuja are set to protest the killing of one of them.

 

News Rain Nigeria reports that the Abuja Newspaper Vendors are set to hold protests to show their grievance over the killing of one of them by security details attached to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, RT. Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila.

 

The vendors under the umbrella of the  Abuja Newspapers Distribution Association (ANDA), has on Thursday, 19th November 2020, during a press conference that was urgently called over the killing of their members, promised to storm the National Assembly and The Force Headquarters in a peaceful protest to demand Justice over the sad occurrence.

ANDA led by its President Comrade Benji Obute declared at the World Press Conference, that all the members of his association will converge at Area 1, on Friday, 20th November 2020, noted no newspaper vendors will operate until after the protest.

The vendors association pleaded to all media houses to cooperate with them to ensure that no paper is leaked out noted that any organization that violated the directive would be sanctioned.

News Rain Nigeria recalled that yet to be identified police officer attached to the convoy of the Speaker of House of Representatives Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila allegedly shot a newspaper vendor, Elechi Emmanuel near the Federal Secretariat in Abuja.

 

It was gathered that the vendors upon sighting the Speaker’s convoy gathered and walked toward the speaker’s car in an attempt to hail him but one of the policemen was said to have shot at them with the bullet hitting one of them in the head.

A video recorded by some passersby and which has gone viral on social media revealed how the victim was seen gasping for breath while another vendor was making effort to revive him.

 

News Rain Nigeria further gathered that the vendor was said to have died later at the National Hospital where he was rushed to, for emergency treatment.

 

It was also gathered that the wife of the slain newspaper vendor allegedly shot by a policeman put to bed last week Saturday, while the deceased and his family have been planning to have their newborn baby christened tomorrow Saturday before his life was cut short by untimely, and unfortunate death.
