SECRETS: Why Ekiti Recorded High SDG Projects – Fayemi Reveals
Fayemi has revealed why the state attracted several Sustainable Development Goals’, (SDG) projects.
News Rain Nigeria gathered that the Governor, represented by his Chief of Staff who is also the Chairman, Sustainable Development Goals, (SDGs) Steering Committee, Biodun Omoleye when he led the Senior Special Assistant to the President on SDG’s, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire to commission a number of projects in the state attributed the benefits the state is getting on SDG’s projects to the good working relationship between Ekiti State Government and the Federal Government.

While thanking President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity, Fayemi said the projects being commissioned, totaling 65 were as a result of renewed good working relationship promoted by his administration with the federal government and the Presidency.
He however regretted the attitude of the previous administration with the federal government, which did not allow the state to explore many opportunities that abound in such a relationship.
He said: “such opportunities eluded our dear state in recent past as a result of sustained confrontation and uncooperative attitude of that administration with the federal government but thank God, the story has changed for the good of our people now.”
He, therefore, promised that such policy of genuine cooperation by hs administration with the federal government would continue so as to attract more developments to the state, and asked communities or local governments yet to benefit to forward their requests to the state government for consideration in the next phase.
Inaugurating the projects, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, Adefulire gave a breakdown of the projects, saying they were spread across all the three Senatorial Districts of the state.
She said: “These projects which were counterpart funded under the 2018 SDG’s -CGS focused on two thematic areas of the SDG’s which are health, education, water, and sanitation.
“In the education sector, a total of 26 contracts, consisting both new construction and renovation of existing facilities) were awarded, and 17 other contracts, consisting of new construction and upgrading of facilities) in the health, sector were executed, making a total of 43 contracts.
”Also, 22 number procurement was made to compliment the construction and renovation works carried out in the education sector and health facilities in the four local governments.“
Speaking further Adefulire solicited the continuous support and cooperation of both the state government and the host communities by making judicious use of the facilities.
She particularly urged the Ekiti state government to use the opportunity provided by the scheme to develop all the local government areas of the state with or without counterpart from the national level.
“We solicit for your continuous support and cooperation as we make use of these facilities for our benefit and that of our children.
“The meager resources from all tiers of government to achieve these national policy objectives that will deliver on the Change Agenda for sustainable socio-economic development should be guided jealously .“ She said.
Some government officials present at the commissioning were the Head, Conditional Grants Scheme in SDG’s office, Abuja, Mrs. Lola Olaopa, Special Adviser to Gov Fayemi on Development Partnership and SDG’s, Mrs. Margaret Fagboyo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on SDG’s, Mrs. Abimbola Solanke, Executive Secretary of Ekiti SDG’s Mr. Dele Ogunsemoyin and immediate past Executive Secretary, Mr. Kayode Adunmo.
Local Governments whose communities benefited from the projects are; Moba, Ijero, Oye, and Ekiti South West, but select towns where some of the projects were commissioned included Ijurin Ekiti, Osun Ekiti, Isan Ekiti, Ilupeju Ekiti, and Ayegbaju Ekiti.
