Lagos Information Commissioner has commend Journalists over Covid-19 Coverage.
News Rain Nigeria reports that Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso on Saturday 27 November 2020 lauded journalists across the country for the job well done during the heat of Coronavirus pandemic.
The commissioner stressed that journalists are also frontline workers, noting that they deserve medals and awards like any other frontline workers.
Mr. Omotosho maintained that journalists played a vital role during the fight against the dreaded Coronavirus in the Country.

Omotosho however blamed Nigeria journalists for the abdication of the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests, saying their abdication led to CNN hatched reports of the incident.
Mr. Omotosho who was ably represented by the Lagos State Director of Social Media Information, Mr. Olajide Atansoye at the First Anniversary Lecture Series of the 2020 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council Press Week, in his lecture titled “Journalists And The Development Of Underdevelopment”, maintained that journalists like other professionals holistically joined the battle against Covid-19, hence they needed to be praised for the job well done by them.
Omotosho maintained that despite all the challenges they face in the course of performing their roles, journalists in Nigeria have always risen to occasion when it matters.
He said if nobody would praise the media, that would not be fine, for they deserve medials, just like our nurses, doctors, and other frontline workers who joined the battle against the deadly pandemic Covid-19.
The lecture had in attendance, the member of Federal Character Commission, Abuja Prof. Joseph Olowofela, the Deputy Executive Secretary of Service UBEC, Dr. Isiaka Kolawole, and Engr. Joseph Tegbe one of the All Progressive Congress Guber Aspirant at the 2019 Gubernatorial Election in the State.
Speaking at the event, Engr. Olasunkanmi Joseph Tegbe said, As the famed fourth Estate of the realm, the role played by the press in the establishment and deepening of democracy and development is well documented and deserves to be celebrated.
The Founder of Tegbe Foundation, Engineer Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe also make use of the event to kick off the launch of the Journalist Support Fund, an initiative of the Demola Babalola-led Executives of the Nigerian Union of Journalist, Oyo State Chapter.
Engr. Tegbe, while initiating donations into the funds also advocated for improved welfare for journalists in Oyo State.
He stressed that the challenge of development continually requires the contribution of all, and journalists play an important role in this. In this age of increased misinformation, it is important that journalists live true to their creed, and their responsibilities as the watchdog of the society and convey news without falsehood and without fear.
Engr. Tegbe who kick- Start the Journalists Support Funds with a donation of One Million Naira, stressed that our journalists deserve better welfare. I am committed to supporting the Oyo State Chapter in this regard. To kick-start the Journalist Support Funds (an initiative of the Demola Babalola-led Executives), I am making a donation to One Million Naira. We will continue to support the media in our own way.
Also in attendance at the event are, the South West Bureau of News for the Nation Newspapers, Bisi Oladele, The Publisher of the Parrot Extra Magazines, Mr. Agboola, the State Executive of the Union, led by Comrade Demola Babalola, the Vice President of Nigeria Union of Journalists Zone B, Mr. Oni Cosmos, the State Photo Journalists Association Chairman Mr. Felix Ademola among others.
