Sahara Reporters has been threatened over arrest story.

News Rain Nigeria reports that Sahara Reporters has been threatened with legal action over alleged arrest story published against the Special Assistant to Governor Abiodun of Ogun State on Students Affairs, Mr. Azeez Adeyemi.

Azeez Adeyemi who was a former Public Relation Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students ( NANS), threatened Sahara Reporters online newspaper for its publication over his arrest at the recently concluded national convention of NANS.

Sahara Reporters To Face Legal Action

Azeez while briefing journalists over the development on Thursday gave 72 hours ultimatum to Sahara Reporters to provide proofs of his arrest or be ready to face legal action.

Azeez stressed that he was never detained nor arrested by any security agents at the convention, challenging the Department of State Services to tell the world if he was at any point arrested. He maintained that he was never at the convention ground when the alleged shoot out happened but was at an hospital where a student leader was earlier admitted.

He said, the news of his arrest came as a rude shocked to him, noting that he suspected it to be a political machination against him by some suspected political opponents, with the aims of soiling the good image of his boss, Governor Abiodun.

“I make bold to say that these concocted lies were politically motivated on my refusal to align with some interests regardless of pressure across for a particular candidate for NANS President Zoned to South West in accordance with NANS Constitution.

“It became obvious that the drama was desperately targeted at destroying me and as well attacking the good image of the governor of Ogun State.

He said, “I hereby call on the management of Sahara Reporters to provide proof of my arrest and being detained by either the men of Department of State Security (DSSS) or Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

“Failure to do this, I will take necessary legal action to seek redress for publishing this unconfirmed story and defamation of my character.”

Azeez further said that the alleged fake report was as a result of his failure to align with some political interests to support a particular candidate from the South West.

He said, “I wish to state categorically as the former Public Relation Officer and an outgoing National Executive Council member of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that I was never neither arrested nor detained by any security agency during the National Convention of NANS.

‘I challenge the DSS to also make bold to tell the world if at any point in time I was arrested during this convention on that Thursday.

“However, the machination of my political enemies had been at work ahead of that Thursday because I had received several calls on Tuesday that I’ve been arrested by the men of Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and not until Thursday that they chose to publish a fake, integrity attacking and unjustifiable story through some online blog and Sahara Reporters.
