Dortmund have sacked their manager, Lucien Favre, following 5-1 home defeat to VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

News Rain Nigeria gathered that Favre whose contract was due to expire at the end of the season will be replaced by his previous assistant coach Edin Terzic with immediate effect.

It is believed the squad will be informed about the decision during their training session on Sunday afternoon and will remain under Terzic’s tutelage for their game against Werder Bremen.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has already been installed among the early favorites to replace Favre.

Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “We are all grateful to Lucien Favre for the superb job he has done over the last two-and-a-half years, achieving two runner-up finishes with his team.

“As a professional and as a person, Lucien Favre is beyond reproach.”

Recall that the result against Stuttgart was Dortmund’s fourth defeat of the season leaving them five points behind Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich.

Subsequently, Dortmund sit fifth in the Bundesliga table on 19 points from their first 11 games.

However, it’s not all been bad news for Favre’s side as Dortmund did manage to qualify for the last-16 of the Champions League as group winners.

Note that Favre, who previously worked at Hertha Berlin and Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, leaves the club alongside his assistant Manfred Stefes.
