Congratulations! Sanwo-Olu Installs Professor Elias As LASU Chancellor

Sanwo-Olu has appointed Prof. Elias as LASU Chancellor.

 

News Rain Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has on Thursday appoints Professor Gbolahan Elias SAN as the Chancellor for Lagos State University (LASU).

Babajide Sanwo-Olu a visitor to LASU during the University’s 24th convocation ceremony at the Buba  Marwa Auditorium at the University Campus in Iyana Iba, Lagos made  the declaration.

Governor Sanwo-Olu who made the disclosure and installation of the  newly appointed Chancellor through virtually zoom technology, urged him to  perform it’s duty optimally to lift the University to an enviable height.

Professor Elias was decorated physically by Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, the State Deputy Governor in conjunction with the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun.

Speaking shortly after his installation, Professor Elias commended the State government for the support given to the university in the past and currently.

He said, “I appreciate the Governor and his team for the support given to the university over the years. We expect you to continue as we will be asking for more,” .

Professor Elias however promised to do all within his power to make sure that the university is one that would be reckon with worldwide.

The newly appointed Chancellor call on  all stakeholders in the university to join hands together to take the  university to a greater height.

He also used the occasion to urge  the alumni of the university to come together to join in building the university.

 

Until his appointment as the LASU Chancellor, Prof. Gbolahan Elias is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and the Presiding Partner at G. Elias & Co., With Significant Clients,such as Mastercard; IQ Options; Bitpesa; Tala; Guala; XBT; Network; InPay; Edenred; Go Ventures; ACI; Ant Financial.

He has been advising leading private equity and venture capital fund managers and investees in the financial services, telecommunications, and technology sectors on investment transactions as well as on the regulatory regime of Fintech businesses in Nigeria.

Gbolahan Elias was called to the Nigerian Bar and the New York Bar in 1981 and 1990, respectively, and has been a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (the equivalent of Queen’s Counsel) since 2005.  He was an associate at Cravath Swaine & Moore, a pre-eminent New York law firm, in late 1989–early 1993.  Prior to that, he read law at Oxford University, England, and obtained all of his four degrees – BA (1stClass Honours), MA BCL (also 1st Class Honours), D. Phil. – from Oxford University.
