News Rain Nigeria reports that the minister of education, Adamu Adamu, said NIN is a mandatory requirement for registration for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination by candidates.

Nigerian Tribune reports that this was disclosed in Abuja on Thursday, January 21, by the minister of education, Malam Adamu Adamu, during the 2020 ministerial press briefing, where he ordered the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to work out modalities with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) for implementation.

The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, said all UTME applicants are mandated to register for NIN.

The report said the board had attempted the introduction of the policy two years ago but failed because of the low level of enrolment for the National Identity Cards by Nigerians.

Adamu said: “The use of the National Identity Number (NIN) for JAMB registration by candidates is now a government policy.

“JAMB is working closely with the National Identity Management Commission, to ensure the sustainability of this policy and eliminate multiple registrations.”
