JOSEPH Marley, also known as Jo Mersa, has reportedly died at the age of 31, after being found unresponsive in his vehicle.

South Florida radio station WZPP reported that Joseph, the grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley, died of an asthma attack.

He debuted in 2014 releasing, through iTunes and Spotify, an EP “Comfortable”.

He also appeared on the Grammy-winning album Strictly Roots by Morgan Heritage.

The official autopsy results for Joseph’s death have not yet been revealed.

Joseph Marley’s dad Stephen was the fourth-born child and second-born son of Bob Marley.

He is an eight-time Grammy award winner for his solo work, family collaborations, and production work.

He grew up in Kingston, Jamaica, where music ran through his blood.

At seven years old, he began his professional singing career when he joined older siblings Ziggy, Sharon, and Cedella in their group called The Melody Makers.

Joseph Marley leaves behind his famous father Stephen Marley and uncle Ziggy Marley.

The Burn It Down singer is also survived by his wife and daughter.

Jo Mersa spent his early years in Jamaica before he moved to Florida.

He studied studio engineering at Miami Dade College, according to a 2014 article by the Jamaica Observer.

At the time, Jo told the outlet that the only challenge he faced was maintaining the lofty standards of the Marley name.

“My father has created a legacy by putting out songs with meaning. It’s something I have to live up to,” he said.

Southern Florida radio station WZPP reported on Instagram that the confirmed cause of Jo Mersa’s death is an asthma attack.

However, the update did not specify the location where the asthma attack occurred.

His second album, Eternal, was released last year and also featured six singles with artists like Melii, Black-Am-I, Busy Signal, and Kabaka Pyramid.

Throughout the years, Jo Mersa would go on to appear in songs with artists like Farruko, Jesse Royal, and his father, Stephen.

Like his family, Jo Mersa followed in their footsteps and released his debut album, Comfortable, in 2014.

The six-song EP featured fellow Jamaican reggae stars Jemere Morgan and Wayne Marshall.

He also appeared on Morgan Heritage’s Grammy-winning Strictly Roots album the following year.

Joseph’s grandfather Bob died of cancer in 1981 at the age of 36. He was survived by 11 children.

Mark J. Golding, a Jamaican politician, the opposition Leader, and president of the People’s National Party, mourned Marley’s death on Twitter.

He wrote: “I’ve just learned of the tragic loss of Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley. A talented young reggae artiste, son of Stephen Marley & grandson of Bob Marley at only 31 yrs old.

“The loss of a child is a devastating blow no parent should face, my condolences to Stephen & the entire family,” he added.
