Governor Commissions Zebra Crossing(See Photos And Video)

Governor Kawira Mwangaza of Meru County, Kenya, has commissioned a Zebra crossing in his state as part of efforts to ensure the municipality attains city status.
A Zebra Crossing is a sign on the road which is supposed to alert oncoming motorists that pedestrians are using that area to cross the busy road and thus they should slow down while approaching.
Photos and a video from the commissioning which took place on Tuesday night, May 9, near Meru National Polytechnic are making the rounds on social media.

The first-term governor, who was with some members of her cabinet, said the move will improve the safety of students and residents.
Mwangaza said; “We’re working day and night. I’ve commissioned a zebra crossing at Meru National Polytechnic, which has a population of about 10,000 students, in an effort to improve the safety of students and area residents of the highly populated area when crossing the busy Meru-Nanyuki highway.”
She further explained that a similar marking exercise had commenced at Gitoro Primary, Meru School, Meru Primary, County headquarters, Riverland, and Gakoromone market to safeguard pedestrians.
The governor added. “We are on a mission of making our municipality safe in line with our dream of making Meru Municipality attain city status. I won’t rest until Meru is completely Happy”.
