President Bola Tinubu on Friday approved the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria for a term of five years at the first instance, pending his confirmation by the Senate.

Tinubu also approved the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the apex bank, for a term of five years at the first instance, pending their confirmation by the Senate.

Below are few things to know about him.

. Cardoso is a Nigerian banker, chartered stockbroker, and public policy maker.

. He served as the former chairman of Citibank Nigeria.

. He was the Commissioner for Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget during the administration of Tinubu as governor of Lagos.

4. Cardoso studied managerial and administrative studies at the Aston University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.

. He has a Master’s degree from the Harvard Kennedy School in public administration.

. Cardoso was a member of the Cities Alliance’s Africa Think Tank Group, a group created to solve urban development challenges.

. He has served as a board member of MRS Oil and was the chairman of the board of EFinA.

. The new CBN Governor is a member of the advisory board of Lagos Business School.

. He was the chairman of the board of African Venture Philanthropy Alliance.

. Cardoso was the founding chairman and co-chair of Ehingbeti Summit, the Lagos state economic summit.

. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree in business administration by his alma mater, Aston University, in recognition of “his outstanding contributions to business and society”.

. Cardoso is a dedicated family man. He is married with five children and three grandchildren. His parents were descendants of Brazilian returnees and came from prominent families from Popo Aguda.
