Top Nigerian Newspaper Headlines And Naija News For Sunday 9th June  2024.

1. Organised Labour on Saturday tackled the state governors, accusing them of acting in bad faith towards the new minimum wage negotiations ongoing in the country. It said every part of the new minimum wage agreement should be implemented and any of the state governors who can’t pay should resign.

2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 127 suspected internet fraudsters during a “Yahoo Party” in Akure, Ondo State. The suspects were apprehended in an early morning raid on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at simultaneous parties held at Signature and Abah Clubs in the state capital.

3. The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects, Ogujiofor Emeka and Desmond Chima during a raid on an adulterated alcoholic drink-producing factory at Oko-Arin Market, in the Lagos Island area of the state. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest.

4. More than 18 Nigerian girls whose age ranges between 16 and 18 years have been rescued from human traffickers in a daring operation by local security guards in Ghana. The girls were reportedly lured to Ghana with the promise of a better life but were instead forced into prostitution.

5. Gunmen have shot and killed a popular politician in Enugu State, Ejike Ukwueze. It was gathered that Ukwueze was reportedly killed on Friday night while driving in a local area, Neke Odenigbo, in Enugu East Local Government Area of the state.

6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the last one year has been a challenging time for the country. The President said he has been working, retooling and rejigging the financial system to bring prosperity and relief to Nigerians.

7. Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and the Presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the opposition in Kano of distracting the government for one year. Kwankwaso reacted to the development during the occasion of the declaration of the State of Emergency on education in Kano State.

8. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to name two roads in Guzape Districts after Chinua Achebe and J. P. Clerk. Wike made the request in Abuja on Saturday during the inauguration of Guzape Lot II Engineering Infrastructure by Tinubu, to celebrate his one year in office.

9. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, on Saturday, revealed that upon assumption of office on May 29, 2023, his administration met no fewer than 4.7 million pupils sitting on bare floors in primary schools across the state. Yusuf, who spoke while declaring a state of emergency on education in Kano at the Open Arena, Kano Government House, said the lack of instructional materials further compounded the problem.

10. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested a total of 15 suspected Internet fraudsters in separate operations conducted in Abuja and Rivers State. The anti-graft agency disclosed this in statements posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.
